FAQ about Paint Protection Film
Q: What brand of material do you use?
A: We use LLumar Paint Protection Film exclusively.
Q: How thick is it?
A: The LLumar Paint Protection Film is 6 mils thick.
Q: Can you see the LLumar Paint Protection Film on the vehicle?
A: It is virtually invisible but if you look very closely you can sometimes pick out the edge if you are very close.
Q:How does the "Self-healing" work on the paint protection film?
A: LLumar Paint Protection Film has multiple layers, each one serving a different purpose, and with a top coat that is able to smooth out surface stains and scratches when external heat from the sun is applied. The top urethane clear coat employs elastomeric polymers designed to eliminate staining, contamination and surface scratches using a proprietary nanotechnology for the "self-healing" properties. The polyurethane layer beneath that is formulated to have excellent memory when stretched over the vehicle’s surface. The design finish utilizes heat from the engine below or the sun above to activate the advanced technology properties. The film’s polymers will smooth out and restore the shine you saw in the original application. It is truly magical when you see it for the first time. We also have a physical demo display that you can actually scratch and watch it self-heal.
Q: How long does it take to install?
A: Install time varies from vehicle to vehicle, but typical install takes about 4-8 hours for a complete front end plus on-premises cure time which typically means that you drop it off in the morning and pick it up the following evening.
Q: Do you use "kits"?
A: No, we exclusively use LLumar Precision Cut. The Company's state-of-the-art Design Team develops industry-best products.
Q: Can the LLumar Paint Protection Film be removed?
A: Yes, but it is rarely needed. The only reason I have removed bras in the past is in the event of a front-end collision. If your vehicle is in an accident and bending is required by the body shop, removal is necessary.
Q: Does the LLumar Paint Protection Film require special care?
A: Not really. It is treated like the rest of the painted finish on your car. To get the best life from your car's paint you must maintain it with wax and regular cleaning and the LLumar Paint Protection Film is no different. Wax and regularly wash it as you do the rest of the car.
Q: Will the paint fade differently under the clear shield?
A: No, as long as you maintain your car's paint and finish. The film and clear coat layers contain UV protectants to counteract harmful ultraviolet rays that can cause yellowing or fading.
Q: Can I go through a carwash?
A: Yes, after 72 hours, you can had wash and wax your car as you normally would. You want to stay away from automatic car washes and power sprayers for two weeks though.
Q: Does the paint protection film come in colors?
A: No, but it does come in two different finishes: Gloss (clear) and Matte.
Q: Will Paint Protection Film harm the painted surface if the film is removed?
A: If the film is properly applied to a fully cured painted vehicle, it can be removed, usually in one piece, without damaging paint surfaces beneath the film.
Q: Can the Film be applied over a vehicle that has had the paint touched up?
A: We recommend that any repainted surfaces on your vehicle be professionally painted and fully cured before applying paint protection film. If you have touched up scratches or chips with a tube of "touch-up" paint and then apply paint protection film over it, the film will protect that area until it is removed. If the paint protection film is removed, it is possible that the area around the non-professional touch-up paint could peel off.
Q: Will the paint smear if the Film is applied over a newly painted vehicle?
A: The paint on a newly painted vehicle must be cured according to manufacturer's recommendations. Your body shop should be able to provide you with this information.
Q: Can I cover the whole vehicle with Paint Protection Film?
A: Yes, but the application is expensive. This product is really intended for the most vulnerable areas of the vehicle which include, bumpers, hoods, grilles, and headlights/fog lights but for those that don't want to take any chances, we can absolutely do the entire vehicle.
Q: Can Paint Protection Film be applied over graphics?
A: The clear film will not interfere with vinyl or painted graphics and is designed to match the gloss levels of today's automotive factory clear coat paint systems, providing virtually invisible protection. However, if the Paint Protection Film is removed, damage may occur to the underlying graphic during the removal process.
Q: What is the LLumar Paint Protection Film warranty?
A: LLumar Premium Paint Protection Film is covered by a 10-year warranty* and is professionally installed at qualified dealers like The Tint Guys here at Sound Performance.
